I Heard a Knock and Answered

Some Things Find You Exactly When They’re Meant To

Opportunity Knocks

I heard a knock; I answered, and opened up the door, and standing right in front of me was Chance and brother More.

Chance said; Hi, please, just take me! More said; hey, have your fill. Should you refuse or fail to choose, another person will.

Door opened wide, I stepped aside and offered them a seat. For whatever their challenge was, I purposed, I would meet.

Warrior Heart

I am a warrior at heart; fought wars of every kind. Of things so unimportant, I cannot bring to mind.

Now, I choose my battles, and they are very few. For that which I had fought for was worthless; wish I knew.

Yet, if I am honest, others had told me so. But every time, I chose my way, and off to war I’d go.

Back then, I never understood, I planted seeds of war. A pound of flesh was all I needed to settle the score.

The Way of Building

Look at it this way, and sometimes, out loud, say. If everything I hope for, I achieved today, what will my tomorrow be; will I wake and think I’m free?

No; boredom will absorb my core. My soul will cry; you must do more. Then, my heart will understand. Yes, no, and wait, go hand-in-hand.

Following Dreams

Following dreams, multiple tries, pressure-filled life. Always, taking the tests and achieving the best, but ending with unfulfilled cries;

Planning to do it better, next time around, but needing a source to show me where it’s found.

Living in haste, a terrible waste, enduring it all; what can I do about starting anew and guarantee I wouldn’t fall?

Vanity filled solutions, floating around; then, you came in and gave me, a song.

Growing and Knowing

Everlasting babies whose every need one tends. Who don’t have the capacity to understand life bends.

No, we want to learn and grow. With that comes trouble—adults know.

First, we must aspire, if we want to achieve, and if we want to get elsewhere, then we must up and leave.

No guarantee of clear blue skies, the weather includes rain, and somewhere in our journey, life will bring us pain.

Ties that Bind

Companions and relationships produce the best in us because the focus switches from ourselves to those we trust.

To form a lasting friendship and preserve intimacy calls for support, mutual trust, care and loyalty.

Now I have a question. When you’re making friends, do you ever consider their moral means to ends?

Tongue-Tied

It’s sobering to recall I came from the dust, the same as my neighbour, when I show disgust.

Unique in mind and body, having varied flaws and capable of vileness, is enough to make me pause.

The moral superiority that many of us show cracks under our actions and in our hearts, we know.

Clean and polished, often show, covering dirt and grime, but can never guarantee the substance of a heart or mind.

Expensive perfume or cologne can distract from dark capabilities but doesn’t change the outcome of causing near fatalities.
